There is a huge difference between analysing the past and historical research.
Analysis of the past should concentrate on the effects of the past visible and represented in the current. It is not relevant to history, but rather how a society sees its own history. Kind of a collective memory, if you like.
Historical research is a search for hard facts, it is focused on the past.
Question: does collective memory function in a similar way as a memory of a single human being? is there such thing as “social phobia” or whatever, which is a result of collective memory block?
